Driver Appeals

The Compliance Review Program (CRP) is designed to help carrier performance by providing you with advice, training and information on proper trucking safety and practices, and by using gradually increasing sanctions.

The Carrier Profile system monitors the performance of each carrier. Profiles are based on a point system, with carriers assigned points for each safety infraction on their record. The number of points for a safety infraction depends on its severity. If the total number of points accumulated by a carrier reaches or exceeds a 40 per cent threshold level of the total points allowed for that carrier, the carrier enters into the Compliance Review Program (CRP) and may be subject to a facility audit.

Who is required to attend a Compliance Review meeting?
You are required to attend a Compliance Review meeting when your Carrier Profile exceeds 85 per cent and/or when you “fail” a Facility Audit. Additional information about the Facility Audit can be found on SGI's website.

What is the purpose of the Compliance Review Meeting?
The meeting has three components:

  • Compliance Review Officer explains the audit report, summarizes its key findings and identifies areas of non-compliance with all rules and regulations;
  • Carrier Profile is reviewed to discuss your on-road performance; and
  • The carrier is issued a safety rating.

Who is in attendance at the meeting?

  • Manager, Highway Traffic Board
  • Manager, Carrier Audit, SGI
  • Compliance Review Officer, Carrier Audit, SGI

What happens after the meeting?
Normally, this is the last step in the compliance review process. Most carriers make the necessary adjustments in order to “pass” a future audit. However, if you do not “pass” a future audit, and/or your on-road performance deteriorates, further intervention steps will occur.

What happens if the carrier does not comply with safety standards?
Where there is a continued pattern of non-compliance, you may be required to attend a hearing before the HTB. This can lead to fines of up to $100,000 and/or revoke your ability to register commercial vehicles.
